We were able to venture out from Ljubljana for some amazing day trips.<\/p>\n

Blejsko Jezero<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Our first was to Blejsko jezero (Lake Bled), a glacial lake in the Julian Alps. There is an approx 4 mi trail that goes around the whole lake so we started out along the trail and enjoyed the lovely views. We decided to do a side quest to a view point, Mala Osojnica. I’d read that it existed, but I didn’t read closely enough to realize it was quite the adventure trail with sections requiring ropes to hang onto while you skirted along the edge of a cliff and this fun ladder\/staircase.<\/p>\n

The views were incredible!<\/p>\n

We completed the loop and saw the castle on a hill and church on a island.<\/p>\n

After some good walking\/hiking, we relaxed and enjoyed a slice of the famous blejska krem\u0161nita (Bled Cream Cake), yum!<\/p>\n

Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle<\/strong><\/h5>\n

On another outing, we took a bus to Postojna and enjoyed coffee at the only cafe open in town before walking over to the cave area. We were still too early for the tour we booked so we checked out the souvenirs which were heavy on the “baby dragons” which are really olms, a cave dwelling salamander.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

You are required to take a tour to control the flow of people through the cave, and while I hate tours, that made a lot of sense and made the visit much more pleasant than if it was a free for all. The coolest part of the visit is that you take a train into and out of the cave. Yes, the cave is big enough for a little train to run a good distance into it.<\/p>\n

We got the most use out of our warm clothes since the cave was brrr. There were lots of cool formations.<\/p>\n
